Anyone who graduated high school can apply, and many do because there is no risk involved for the prospective students. In addition, there is no GPA limit, no SATs or any evaluation at all for most IT, scientific and engineering fields because not many want to do STEM in the first place and they want to lower the barrier of entry in those fields specifically to catch every qualified person possible. Tuition money comes out of taxes, we have "free" education that way. It is important to notice that this takes place in germany. I’m willing to concede that 83% of students failing something may suggest deeper issues with the prof, but there are hundreds of profs at your and all other universities who are teaching things exactly the same way they have for decades, except that now half their students do just fine on everything except in person exams… Department data shows this didn’t use to happen.īefore you insist professors who observe this must be terrible, think how ridiculous our own biases must be if you can convince yourself that the people who actually got A’s in all the classes that you complain about all day and then went to grad school are too dumb to be able to notice basic trends in student competency. I’m a grad student teaching physics to a bunch of 20 year olds who can’t remember the log rules, and it’s miserable. A mind-boggling fraction of students get through high school (and college) on the backs of Chegg and Photomath. The population as a whole is smarter but a lot more people go to college because administrators don’t care if they’re grifting tuition money from underprepared students.
